The Ambassador Hotel claims to be Kazakhstan’s first ’boutique’ hotel. Located in a neo-classical inspired building in the old part of town, it is certainly heading in the right direction. The staff are friendly, speak good English, and will do everything to make your stay comfortable. The rooms at the Ambassador Hotel are spacious and despite the slightly heavy furnishings, offer a good place to relax at the end of a busy day. Upgrade to the deluxe or luxe rooms and find more space, bigger bathrooms with baths, and huge flat screen TVs. The restaurant serves a fairly standard breakfast and lunch, but in the evenings a fuller menu is on offer and the food is tasty. Although there are a few improvements which could be made, notably better internet connection (the WiFi is chargeable) and a bit of a revamp, the Ambassador fills the gap between the big overpriced hotels in Almaty, and the equally overpriced Soviet leftovers.
