Alternative Amsterdam | Eccentric Short Films for the Soul
Ambassade Hotel
Any hotel that has its own library is already somewhat more sophisticated than others, and this is especially true of the Ambassade Hotel, which has hosted some very literary guests.
Amstelpark
A wonderful park for families with younger kids, with mini golf, pony rides and a miniature train.
Amsterdam ArenA
Up the Orange! This stadium is the heart of football in Amsterdam, and is where Ajax and the national team play. Also has a museum and is open for tours.

A vast green space on the outskirts of central Amsterdam. There's a fair few things to do there, and plenty of space to meander around.
Amsterdamse Golf Club

A zoo! With animals of all shapes and sizes, and if you are so inclined, there is even a petting zoo.
AVEDA Dayspa
Bagels & Beans
Delicious bagels and coffee beans basically, though the beans are usually in the form of a drink by the time you pay for them. Better than your average coffee joint.
Banks Mansion
A different way of doing hotel packages, this former bank's rates include all sorts of things that are normally charged separately in other hotels, such as in-room movies and a private bar.
Barney’s Coffeeshop
If you are going to try puffing on a spliff in Amsterdam than the venues that Barney's runs are the best place to crash and get the munchies.
Barney’s Uptown
Something of a smoker's joint, so don't be surprised if someone blazes up next to you, but also has surprisingly good food and drinks on offer.
Beatrixpark
Perfect for those sunny days out when all you want to do is lounge around and appreciate the surrounds, Beatrixpark is tranquil and relaxing.
Beaufort Jewellers
Looking for that special ring for that special person? Make a statement with a ring from Beaufort.
Beddington’s
Beddington's is a place for something a bit different, with menus that are fusions of fine French dining and whatever else happens to take the chefs fancy at the time.
Bern
There are few pleasures quite so indulgent as melting up a big pot of cheese and dipping bread into it - and Bern is one of the few places in Amsterdam that does a good fondue.
Bike City
Biking is a great way to get round Amsterdam, and Bike City lets you do it discreetly and in an eco-friendly way.
Bilderdijkstraat
A quirky boutique can be found on this road selling vintage fashion, and of all the things, Barbie dolls.
Bird
The standout of the many Chinese and Thai restaurants that line Amsterdam's Chinatown - decent food and a nice atmosphere.
Bitterzoet
A place for people who love to dance, it gets quite sweaty in the club area. Plays an eclectic and intriguing range of music that will, eventually, suit all tastes.
Blauw aan de Wal
Hidden away in the Red Light District like an oasis of gastronomic serenity, Blauw ann de Wal serves classic, conventional fare done very very well.
Blue Boat Company
A long running company that cares about the environment as well, there is very little you can fault about these guys.
Blue Pepper
Blue Pepper is an Indonesian restaurant that refuses to soften its flavours for the European palate, resulting in a much more genuine, and not to mention delicious, dining experience.
Brasserie de Pereboom
Your average Dutch café, a good place to sit on the terrace and people watch. Nothing very surprising here, either good or bad.
Bridges
A newly opened restaurant (as of 2010), Bridges serves some spectacular seafood with wildly diverging influences, from France to India.
Broodje Bert
Don't judge this little treasure from its exterior, instead, go in and have a bite of their sandwiches, which will power you all day.
Bubbles & Wines
This tucked away little bar that is dedicated to the fruit of the vine is an excellent place to kick off the evening, with an excellent selection that can be accompanied with a tasty range of snacks.
Burgermeester
A burger-shaped delight, with meats from tuna to deer and an unhealthy slathering of sauces. Burger making done by people who clearly love burgers.
Café Brandon
Cosy, retro brown café with the added treat (for some) that it often ignores the rules for indoors smoking.
Café de Jaren
A large, airy café that is a great spot to prepare, or refresh, yourself for the throng and hubbub of the RLD.
Café de Pijp
If you want to spend an evening exploring De Pijp, then this retro-styled Café is a good place to start.

Everything you need for an evening out in one place, with a competent restaurant, a bar and even a hash café next door.

This club sits right on the cutting-edge of Amsterdam's club scene with live music all the way through to drum n bass beat poets.
Café Shiller
A superior art deco bar with a comfortable, luscious interior that is a step above the usual tourist traps.
