Baku has a long history with jazz and the Jazz Centre is one of the city’s most happening weekend party places as well as being a cultural highlight on the music scene in general. There is a nightly live music programme from 9pm until close, but it’s at the weekends where things really come to life, with an innovative programme that may include live bands riffing with scratch DJs,swapping singers and generally having all the infectious fun that a good jazz night should include. DJs between acts keep the atmosphere alive with an eclectic mix of jazz, funk and groove classics. Jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau have performed here and even George Benson showed his face when he was headlining at the higher profile Heydar Aliyev Palace (see Culture). Food is so-so, so eat first, as it’s the music you’re here for. Look out also on their website for forthcoming festivals and events.
