Looking incongruously like some medieval castle fantasy from the street, Mesa Lounge really surprises with its interior. The restaurant on the top floor would do any Spaniard proud – swathes of red and gold chiffon are draped from a vaulted ceiling over plate-glass windows that open in the summer for an almost al fresco experience. Potted palms and banana plants complete the
Spanish harem effect and teams of helpful staff buzz around waiting on the highly fashionable mainly 20- and 30-something crowd. Japanese and European menus both excel, especially the unusual crunchy hot maki rolls from the former and the rib-eye with foie gras from the latter. After dinner, try one of the handmade fruit kalyan – a shisha drawn through a hollowed piece of fruit for a surprisingly intense flavour hit. For more on the excellent first floor bar (see Drink).
