Hg2 : The Hedonist

Every major city these days has a great sushi restaurant and, in Barcelona, Matsuri is it. Located in the Gothic district, it serves absolutely impeccable sushi. Simple wooden tables and basic lighting make up the d├ęcor but each section is divided with a beautiful sheath of linen so the atmosphere is actually very intimate and private. Owner and head chef Edo Komori was born in Brazil and, after stints cooking in Japan, Thailand, New York and Miami to name but a few, he set up his own sushi restaurant in Barcelona to demonstrate the culinary skills he had developed. Matsuri was the result and it is sushi heaven. The wine list is small but excellent and the food is indescribable. Even basic pieces like California and spicy tuna rolls are delectable, the Yakitori chicken is excellent and the Miso soup is favoured even by the habitually unconvinced. Next door is the sister restaurant that goes by the same name but serves Southeast Asian cuisine. The prices are incredibly reasonable for first class sushi and although obviously not authentic to this region, those pining for sushi will undoubtedly be thrilled at a restaurant of this calibre.
