Renovated by concept designer Samir Saab, the Ron Arad chairs combined with boxed lighting fixtures accentuate the retro-inspired theme with oak flooring and Organza fabrics to boot. Rooms offer huge plasma TV screens, cubic sinks, Vichy shower units and cool monogrammed Turkish terry bathrobes. Health-conscious hipsters will appreciate the urban spa created at this 124-room design beauty. The Stone Spa combines full-on pampering with New Age therapies using caviar, gold flakes, gemstones, smooth river stones and indigenous plants for treatments with names like Teotihuacan Wonder or Two Lovers Little Stones massage, where couples are indulged in the tranquil surroundings of the relaxing Mediterranean Garden. A rooftop pool and lounge bar lined with hammocks adds even more wow factor. Head chef Jaume Brichs, of Michelin pedigree, conjures up ‘Mexiterranean’ dishes at the on-site restaurant using spicy Mexican, Catalan and Mediterranean ingredients. Lighter snacks are also served at a pistachio-coloured glass bar where ceviche tapas and signature cocktails are very much the order of the day. The ‘Casanova’, a blend of strawberries, lime juice, Cinzano and Lillet, is our tipple of choice.
