One of the most stylish café-bars in Berlin, Marietta’s is recognizable by its green mosaic bar and retro furnishings, which can be seen through the large front windows. Throughout the day Marietta functions as a meeting place for the local cognoscenti, who come here for cake and coffee, and the generous weekend breakfasts (served until 3pm). Come night-time the larger second room out back, with its orange colour scheme (still retro) and higgledy-piggledy collection of funky chairs, tables and lamps, comes into its own. The cocktails start to flow and an international crowd mingle with Prenzlauer Berg socialites to a mainly electronic soundtrack. Interestingly Marietta looks nothing like the website suggests, though we wouldn’t let that put you off coming here and experiencing the neighbourhood friendliness. Wednesday is gay night.
