One of Berlin’s few gourmet restaurants independent of a five-star hotel, Vau has reaped deserved rewards since opening in 1997, and the restaurant continues to carry its one Michelin star. Founded on a philosophy of ‘enjoyment for all senses’ the owners really do make a meal of every dinner. The international menu has a strong focus on seasonal ingredients and provides ample opportunity for chef Kolja Kleeberg to demonstrate his culinary dexterity and flair. Over 480 wines are offered and a selection of digestives and cigars can be enjoyed in the charming wine cellar. The modern, elegant interior appeals to most tastes and, like the efficient service, is in line with Teutonic precision. Guests should arrive smart and expect a fine gastronomic work out. Those on a budget could try Vau for lunch, where each course costs a mere €15.
