Since 1912, Develi has been delivering spicy kebabs and other traditional south-east Anatolian dishes to the city. Its excellent reputation has survived the decades intact and the original restaurant occupies a large, ornamental wooden building on the long costal road that stretches along the Sea of Marmara from the Old City towards the airport. The drive is worth it, an opinion shared by the clientele that comes from miles around. Perennial favourites are the çi köfte (steak tartar-type meatballs) and the delicious keme kebab (cooked with apple and walnuts). Like its patrons’ waistlines, Develi has expanded over recent years, and now includes restaurants in Kalami, in Kadiköy’s marina, Etiler and Ataehir.
