Hg2 : The Hedonist

A Hedonist’s guide to…

Lisbon

Casanostra
Casanostra is one of the best little Italian restaurants in Lisbon, with great pasta, loyal locals and some fun people-watching make it worth a visit
Hotel do Chiado
If it's all about location, location, location then this hotel comes out top...
Hotel Baia
Simple without sacrificing style, and a well-connected owner who will happily give you the ins and outs of the area...
Lisboa Regency Chiado
The Regency Chiado has a couple of real highlights: its location, sandwiched between the Bairro Alto and the more conservative shopping of Baixa; and the attention to detail and level of service on offer.
Lounge Cafe
Located a little further out than the principal hubbub of bars and restaurants in the area, Lounge Cafe sounds exactly how it is; a chilled-out crowd (mostly students) nursing a pint in dim lighting.
Jardim dos Sentidos
The vegetarian menu here is adventurous and interesting. Providing a relaxed atmosphere with a popular outdoor dining area in the summer.
VIP Eden
Naming a hotel 'VIP' is always ambitious, and some elements of the Eden risk being tacky. Nonetheless, a central location and self-contained apartments make this a good choice for groups on a budget.
Agito
Although not situated within the central madness of this area, the Agito Bar retains a vibrant atmosphere and is conveniently located on Rua da Rosa. Chilled and effortlessly cool.
Galeto
Although situated in a more remote part of the city, Galeto Restaurant is perfectly placed; next door to a fantastic party hotspot, you can spend hours and hours here contemplating life.
Surfing
Lisbon is on the coast and where there is sea you will find surfers trying to tame it. Break out the flip flops and board wax and hit the beach.
Bonjardim
Though cheap it most certainly does not serve sub-standard piri-piri chicken - refreshingly raucous...
Hotel Veneza
The Veneza should be one of those hotels, slightly faded around the edges but packed full of a bygone era charm. Somehow it's not - refurbs have left it lacking. For sleeping only.
Madres de Goa
This is an ideal spot to rest and have a quiet refreshment, day or night. Its late opening hours, and the fact that it caters for all moods and needs, mean there is little need to stray far.
Docks Club
Docks Club is popular with people from all walks. The night is bound to be cheap, unpretentious and within such a close distance of other similarly cheesy clubs...
Casanova
This restaurant offers a cosmopolitan paradox; the trendy crowd fits in with the reputation of the area. Their legendary pizzas defy the fast-food label.
Café Suiça
Café Suiça provides perfect opportunities for people-watching while taking a well deserved break from the day of shopping and sightseeing...
Café Rosso
There is a wealth of options for eating and drinking, particularly around this area. Café Rosso, while convenient, may be more appropriate for a coffee than food...
Café no Chiado
Attracting a young, cosmopolitan crowd, this is an extremely affordable option for a light lunch with friends. Alternatively, young professionals ponder books and enjoy a cold glass of wine...
Come Prima
Representing the more romantic side of busy Lisbon, Italian restaurant Come Prima exudes charm and character, serving up high quality, traditional dishes without compromising on value.
