Sophisticated gastronomy and an emphasis on the quality of cuisine have successfully elevated the Veranda beyond a hotel restaurant. Only chefs of solid reputation are given free reign in the kitchen, making this a firm favourite with Lisbon’s culinary elite.
The carefully crafted menu caters for all tastes and appetites and includes both four- and seven-course degustation menus and an alternative à la carte option. The precision involved in selecting appropriate wines and complementary food combinations verges on the obsessive, but it’s a treat for any food fanatic.
Given the quality of food and service, it’s a shame that the restaurant persists in keeping a stiff upper lip. A younger crowd are deterred by the strict black tie policy, while the overtly refined environment can be painfully austere. Best kept for a romantic dinner or a midweek meal with the parents.
