The Book Club
The Book Club positions itself, quite rightly, as a place that belongs to London’s thinkers and drinkers, much like its sister venues, the Queen of Hoxton and Stories. This cafe, bar and events space found in Shoreditch is the millennial iteration of traditional European café culture – but with ping pong.
A popular place for breakfast meetings, this converted two-storey Victorian warehouse buzzes with the sound of sizzling frying pans and people hastily tapping away at their laptops in the morning. While later in the day, the expansive food menu and very drinkable cocktail list (the “Don’t Go to Dalston” is a must try) fuel those who’ve arrived to take part in one of the venue’s rich tapestry of events. The offerings range from guest speakers to alternative dating nights and everything in-between.
But if it’s been a tough day at the office (and the thought of engaging in any kind of thoughtful discussion is horrifying), the ping-pong tables are there for you to blow off some steam.
