Revamped following a kitchen fire, Electric has been transformed from Brasserie into chic Diner, complete with Chicago chef Brendan Sodikoff – winner of the best burger in the US. The outside world swiftly recedes with the low-level lighting, brick walls and domed wooden ceiling. Settle in on the bar stools or the red-leather banquettes and enjoy a trusty cocktail or one of 19 beers. The buzz of the busy grill and reel-to-reel music offer an authentic diner experience throughout the day but the generous finger-lickin’ fare is the star. Think sweet pickles, thick cut peppered bacon side, bologna sandwiches or honey-fried chicken with chilli and sesame seeds, topped off with a chocolate cream pie.
Founder Nick Jones, who brought Soho House to London and New York, is on to another winner here. With a no reservations policy, however, you might have to make do with the Donuts next door.
The Electric playground continues with the historic cinema from which the Diner takes its name (see Culture), or the private members’ club, Electric House, upstairs.
