The Palomar

Riding the Levantine wave and at the forefront of modern Israeli cooking is The Palomar, set in a touristy street on the edge of Chinatown and flanked by over-priced and under-delivering restaurants. The décor is New York on the beach – a long zinc countertop bar is crowded with drop-in diners, while the Mediterranean blue banquets in the back are filled with those in for the long haul. The Palomar is all about contemporary Jerusalem (albeit influenced by London tastes, North African spices and Southern Spanish cooking) – the plancha (grill) sears scallops, deconstructs kebabs, and ‘josperises’ octopus steak. The Palomar raw bar stretches from oysters to raw beef and there’s a fine and well-curated wine list to keep you rooted to your stool.
