The OXO Tower
One of the South Bank’s most famous landmarks, the OXO Tower (an ex-power station and later the HQ of OXO beef stock cubes) is an essential address for shopping in London for fans of original works from little-known design labels – and crowd-phobes. Many designers work onsite, making and selling fashion, jewellery, ceramics, art and photography. On the eighth floor is the OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar and Brasserie, under the management of Harvey Nichols, with panoramic river views, while the (original) redbrick barge house opposite the south side hosts interesting exhibitions. If you like this, you’ll also like Gabriel’s Wharf, nearby (Upper Ground, SE1).
