Found within walking distance of Marrakech’s central square, the famous Jemaa el Fna, Dar Assiya is a beautifully restored riad with five spacious guestrooms. Decorated with care and an eye to preserving the special qualities of this traditional building, there are heavy drape curtains, which seal romantic nooks off from view, sweeping archways, Moroccan soft furnishings, and a widespread use of white, the better to offset the authentic carvings and intricately painted high ceilings.
Beyond the comfortable surrounds of the rooms, guests can soak up the Moroccan sunshine on the roof terrace and admire the sight of the minaret-studded Marrakech skyline beyond. While downstairs, there’s an airy courtyard area to relax in with a book and a cup of mint tea. And for added decadence, the hotel also offers the services of a massage therapist and other spa treatments.
Dar Assiya also has its own cigar bar and a restaurant serving Moroccan cuisine. And for those who want to learn about Moroccan food during their stay, the Dar Assiya chef offers cooking classes. The sessions start with a trip to the nearby market to pick up fresh and seasonal ingredients, before heading back to the hotel to learn how to make dishes like tagines, couscous and pastilla (Moroccan pastries), which you can then happily devour come dinnertime.
