A quick five-minute saunter from the vibrant commotion of Marrakech’s Jemaa El Fna will bring you to the glamorous environs of Dar Jaguar. Step through the heavy cedar door and into a riad rich in original Moorish and Oriental architecture and draped in bougainvillea. Peeking through the palm leaves and into the hotel itself reveals three rooms and two impressive suites, decorated with what guests will come to recognise as owner and London-based couture fashion designer Lucia Silver’s fantastic sense of style (think: 1001 Nights meets the dark romantic poetry of Shelley and Byron). Decorated in jewel-tones, strewn with antique and silk cushions, and splashed with warmly glowing metal accents, like the handmade brass lights and the copper washbasins, the rooms are sumptuous.
While fantastically-placed for any well-heeled traveller’s visit to Marrakech, Dar Jaguar really comes into its own for romantic getaways. Couples can enjoy candlelit dinners on the rooftop terrace, while listening to the call to prayer and enjoying the sparkle of the stars above and city lights below. And when it comes to which room to choose, you can’t do better than the Royal Suite, with its open fireplace, freestanding copper bathtub and Juliet balcony overlooking the interior courtyard.
