Hg2 : The Hedonist

Le Prieué

One of the few family-run restaurants in Megève, Le Prieuré is a wonderful little spot right in the centre that dates back to the 14th century, well, the building that is, the restaurant itself started life as a tearoom back in the 1930s before becoming a restaurant. In its current incarnation Le Prieuré is owned by the local Frémondière family, who purchased it in the late 80s, and have really made it a family business – Richard is the chef, Sebastien the front of house, Anne-Corinne the receptionist and Jean-Pierre the Pâtissier. The menu changes seasonally and as you might expect from such a family business takes great pride in sourcing the finest local produce, and then applies a modern twist to traditional mountain cooking. Attached to the restaurant is a little tea room with a terrace that opens up onto the square and is perfect for a sunny winter’s day with a warm cup of tea or a small pastry treat. The interior is warm, cosy and mingles the old fashioned with more modern design touches. Wonderful cooking at affordable prices with an extremely friendly atmosphere – does it get any better than this.
