Hg2 : The Hedonist

Odeon Cinema

The Odeon is to cinemas in Milan what the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is to shopping – a formidable historical monument that has sold out to commerciality. Built in 1929 just off Piazza del Duomo, with three floors of cinemas and a theatre below, it still retains much of the original Art Deco wooden marquetry, vast ceilings and marble floors, and following a recent conservation programme, some faithful reproductions of features such as cashiers’ walnut and glass booths. But it’s now just a fac?ade for a mass- market multiplex. Screen 2 is the original theatre (still with period details), although original version films are almost always held in the smaller screening areas.
