For some, Magazzini Generali is the only one of all the clubs in Milan worth going to. With big-name DJs like the Chemical Brothers, and an out-there (for Milan) musical agenda of nu-house, electro, swing, breakbeat, and even DJ sets to live orchestras (Saturdays), it’s a serious club that’s a lot of fun.
Its Friday nights are the most popular in Milan, catering for 1,000 party-hardies in a two-floor warehouse on a desolate industrial estate. The house-heavy ground floor has two bars – its smaller, neon-pink bar on the stage is affectionately and unofficially called Gay Privé (because it’s very gay and very fashionable).
Livello 2 in the basement courts the hip-hop minority – it’s a lot less serious down there. Emerging and established international bands play gigs here on non-club nights – it’s not called the ‘General Store’ for nothing.
