The Bolshoi is as much a Russian landmark, steeped in history both turbulent and opulent, as it is a wonderful, working theatre.
Tretyakov Gallery
The residential Zamoskvorechie area was virtually ignored by Stalin's regime leaving it with an authentic old-fashioned atmosphere. Both the New and Old Tretyakov Galleries display an enormous range of art from the Medieval to the contemporary.

Golden and gleaming, this Cathedral is definitely worth a visit.
