The Third Man
The Third Man is a speakeasy-style bar in one of New York’s hipster-centric locales, Alphabet City. The dark wooden accents, exposed brick walls, canvas screens and bar-top vegetation all contribute towards the compellingly rustic vibe here. Owned by the group behind the Michelin-starred restaurant Edi and the Wolf, The Third Man is already a firm favourite amongst the hip twenty-somethings who inhabit the area. But the beautifully mixed drinks here attract a wide-ranging clientele, all eager for a taste of the mixologists’ concoctions.
The cocktails are ‘chef-inspired’, meaning they’re loaded with fresh produce and herbs. The list varies, but you can expect such tastebud-tantalisers as the “Honey Nut Old Fashioned” (made with Irish whisky, Velvet Falernum, ginger, allspice and bitters) and the “Upunctual” (a devilish drink of sake, moonshine, Cocchi Rosa, maraschino liqueur, pandan, peach, grapefruit, honey and lemon). For slow-burn drinkers and first-daters, meanwhile, there are plenty of wine and beer options to keep things lucid, and a few small plates to keep the stomach lined.
