The Knickerbocker Hotel

For all the flash and furor of Times Square outside, The Knickerbocker Hotel is remarkably serene; the sound-proofing was worth every penny. You can enjoy the neon, and the flurry of people and cabs and ads whenever you want to peer out the windows, to remind yourself where you are. But you won’t lose a wink over sleep over it (the blackout curtains help, too). That’s thanks, in part, to the ridiculously comfy beds with Ploh goose down pillows and SFERRA Egyptian cotton linens.

After all, as The Knickerbocker Hotel itself points out, the 350 rooms here are like little cocoons of luxury. Decorated in cool shades of cream and stone, the decor is quietly luxurious. Coffee tables are inlaid with mother of pearl, bathrooms are made of marble (and pimped with Ted Gibson products) and where a high-end amenity could be gracefully installed, it was – from personal tablets to back-lit mirrors that’ll make you look and feel wonderful. Only the best for guests at The Knickerbocker Hotel.

That’s why, in addition to the rooms, the hotel’s Beaux-Art facade contains numerous drinking and dining options, including the market-driven American restaurant, Charlie Palmer at The Knick, and the rooftop cocktail bar, St. Cloud. Incidentally, the latter was named for the 19th century hotel that used to call this prime Times Square spot its home. Times have changed and the view of the city is dramatically different from what it was back in the day, but one thing might be similar – The Knickerbocker Hotel feels peaceful, as if the riot of the city wasn’t right outside its doors. A still point around which the city spins.
