Brought together through a mutual ‘truffle guy’, the marriage of a drinks specialist and acclaimed chef resulted in the birth of Estela. Thomas Carter (former beverage director of Blue Hills at Stone Barns) and Ignacio Mattos (James Beard Award winner) together created a perfect balance of their interests, a bar/restaurant where the wine defines the food. The otherwise simple décor of exposed brick and wooden tables is dominated by the marble bar, ensuring all focus is where it should be. Thomas’ menu consists of over 150 wines from all over Europe, and is perfectly complimented by Ignacio’s Mediterranean influenced dishes (14 to be exact). The simple menu welcomes you to choose from the light (seared scallops) to the heavy (honeyed lamb ribs), with only the foolish selecting their own partnering wine.
