Télescope is a chicly minimalist coffee shop in Paris’ 1er arrondissement. Here, coffee is (rightly) the star event, with the impressive Marzocco espresso machine taking pride of place on the counter and the odd plate of cookies or banana bread idling by. Télescope is a place where your barista will know where the coffee beans were sourced and roasted, the exact temperature to heat your milk, and the perfect way to pour it for maximum crema. In short, coffee making at Télescope is an art.
Since 2012, this little corner of Paris has been where many a coffee philistine has been converted, and they’ll happily tell you so. If you’re not lucky enough to snag a seat, take your expertly brewed cup to go, then amble over to the nearby Jardin du Palais Royal or set out on a short stroll to the Louvre. But if you do find a seat, settle back and let the coffee work its magic, as you listen to the eclectic playlist and soak in the atmosphere of this simple temple to the coffee bean. Don’t bother bringing your laptop and to-do list though; this cafe is WiFi-free, which just adds to its calming appeal.
