There is something of the surreal world of The City of Lost Children aboard the club boat Batofar (one just wishes everyone were forced to wear the Jean-Paul Gaultier costumes). It’s as if you’ve entered the depths of someone’s dark imagination: you’ll chance upon endless nooks and crannies to keep you entertained until the place starts to truly kick off, at around 3am. Be warned that the constricted space and the tiny circular windows mean a lack of proper ventilation, so it does get extremely hot! But that’s a small price to pay for the pleasure of downing a beer while watching clueless fish swimming in the circular tank at the centre of the lounge area. A DJ stage lurks in the boat’s main hold, where live bands appear at least once a week. Watch out for the quayside summer events where drinkers party on deck, as well as the morning revelry on the first Sunday of every month.
Batofar is featured in Hg2 Magazine’s round-up of the best venues for outdoor clubbing in Europe.
