Hg2 : The Hedonist

One of Paris’s original boutique hotels, a collaboration between hotelier Grace Leo-Andrieu, designer Christian Liaigre and interior architect François Champsaur, the Montalembert remains high on the chic list. It’s in pole position in the 7th arrondissement, near the Musée d’Orsay, the boutiques of the rue du Bac and Le Bon Marché department store. The hotel does suffer from Left Bank Syndrome in terms of clunky, contortingly tiny lifts but, luckily, the 56 rooms are more expansive. All are individually decorated, in one of two equally restrained styles: a classical, sandy-beige Empire look, with vintage prints in gilded frames, and grey-toned minimalism, with black-framed photography and modern furniture. Staff wear chic, pared-down uniforms, and there’s a restaurant and bar where you can toy with health-conscious tasting plates.
