Bistro Proti Proudu
One of the first things you’ll notice on walking into Bistro Proti Proudi, other than being struck by the rich, nutty aroma of freshly brewed coffee, is all the wires. They dangle from the ceiling and are artistically rendered on the walls. The design was inspired by the Czech electrical engineer František Križík; a significant historical figure in the neighbourhood. Speaking of: the Karlín district is fast becoming one of Prague’s trendiest areas, with chic bistros, shops and wine bars popping up all over the place. And Bistro Proti Proudu, with its minimalist aesthetic and marble floors, is a happy, all-together hip addition.
Serving a tasty breakfast, with sweet and savoury options, as well as soups and sandwiches throughout the day, there’s plenty of choice. Although, give us the roasted pork belly sandwich – served sweet and sticky with ginger and garlic, with a dollop of wild garlic mayo when it’s in season, or pickles when it’s not – any day of the week. For small bites, there are cheeseboards and salted almonds, which you can enjoy alongside a glass of dry rosé, and plenty of sugary treats, like rich gluten-free brownies, that you could nibble on, while partaking of a glass of homemade cucumber lemonade.
