U Maleho Glena
Although you wouldn’t guess it, this is one of the best spots for live music in Prague. From the outside this looks like a typical Czech/Irish pub advertising live gigs by dodgy tribute bands. Fortunately, that’s not the case.
The club downstairs is a live music lounge that promotes young Czech jazz at its finest, bringing in established musicians as well as a great deal of up-and-coming talent.
The sound in the tiny vaulted cellar is intense, and the audience so close to the musicians that a skilled spectator could reach out and play a solo on one of the instruments without moving from their seat. The room only holds 20 or so bodies and can get hot and sweaty pretty quickly.
Drinks are cheap and the crowd (a mix of locals and tourists) tends to be passionate. Definitely worth a visit, although perhaps the Sunday night free-for-all is best avoided.
