Hg2 : The Hedonist

Rhome

Rhome is one of the most fascinating places to drink in Rome for many reasons, first of all for the steady traffic of coiffed, Cavalli-clad, diamante-encrusted ‘girlfriends’ who populate this recently renovated restaurant cum DJ bar. Second, because it used to be a rather successful fish restaurant called Reef, which seemingly vanished overnight (and no one really wants to talk about it). Porsches and Ferraris litter the street outside, while inside tanned, powerful-looking men in suits and cashmere jumpers talk shop and the girls dance to a series of high-octane tunes in exchange for their new D&G handbags. Interestingly, there is no drinks menu (prices are extortionate) but there is a designated space for smokers; both are vaguely illegal in Italy. Elementary powers of deduction, therefore, make one think that this gig is a ‘family run’ affair, which makes it even more (precariously) entertaining as a fly on the wall at the bar. Design is very 1980s Manhattan, with lots of chrome, black marble and visceral accents of red, with stylish and skin-soft furniture courtesy of Poltrona Frau.
