Wayfare Tavern is still one of those San Francisco restaurants that is constantly enjoyable, even though the learning arena for a number of great chefs was taken over by Food TV icon Tyler Florence. The menu is classic Americana, with a decadent version fried chicken, richer-still deviled eggs, a perfect Hangtown Fry, and a wood-grilled chicken paillard. The wine list at the Wayfare Tavern is perfect for the aggressive flavours on the menu: all California, all the time. The space hearkens to a bygone era, with animals mounted on the walls and a fireplace at the back that runs even on warmer days. Is Richard Nixon in the house?
