This little café-bakery is an Atkins dieter’s nightmare. It’s known for having the best bread in the city. This bread is also sold at the Rival Bakery, which adjoins the Rival Hotel on Södermalm. There are dozens of different varieties, as well as lots of exquisite cakes. The Catalan – delicate little tarts made from ground almonds with a layer of raspberry – are particularly wonderful, as are the bulle, which are sweet bread buns sometimes filled with vanilla cream.
rnRiddarbageriet is a pleasant place for lunch or fika, not least because it is one of the few places in town to serve tea in a teapot. Unfortunately, there are only five small marble-topped tables inside, which tend to fill up quickly and are best avoided during the lunchtime rush. But because it’s not on a busy pedestrian street you can often be lucky and score a table at Riddarbageriet.
