This is one of those outstanding Stockholm places that could just have easily been popped into the chapter on where to go for dinner or a drink. Marie Laveau is a multiple personality venue. There’s a large bar at the front, with black leather sofas to lounge on, and walls that display artworks by a changing line-up of modern artists; a super cosy little bar at the back where music isn’t played so you can have a decent conversation; a good, attractive restaurant; and, at the weekend, there’s the club downstairs. Because it’s on Södermalm you’ll get a far different crowd here than over in Östermalm. This side of town is far less self-important. The music policy varies from week to week. One night it will be all about the 80s, the next could be their celebration of Britpop known as Bangers’n’Mash. The only rules are no hip-hop and no reggae.
