Hg2 : The Hedonist

Bungalow 8

With a waterfront view over Darling Harbour, outdoor tables abuzz with a young, down-to-earth crowd and a striking modern design by Australian architect Dale Jones-Evans, Bungalow 8 toes the line between what you might expect from pubs and bars in Sydney – the sort of spot that morphs from a casual seafood ‘n’ drinks bistro by day into a cracking Sydney nightspot post-sunset, especially because slick cocktail bar The Loft is just upstairs. The interiors are inspiring, with hanging lamps of reed, illuminated bamboo and a DJ manning the decks on weekends, though the outdoor tables or booths are the money spots with views over the harbour. As far as tipples go, there’s plenty to choose from and it’s all decently-priced, with around 40 varieties of vodka and plenty of draught beers, including the award-winning Matilda Bay, ‘Barking Duck’ farmhouse ale. It’s also a top choice for an informal lunch, especially on Tuesdays, when the city crowd converges for all-you-can-eat mussel feasts, served in traditional Belgian kilo pots with chunky fries and crusty bread.
