McIvers Baths is a slip of a pool but it more than holds its own with the other Sydney swimming pools. It’s only about 20-metres long with natural rock walls and waves rolling gently over the sea wall, yet it’s loved for its serene, female-only atmosphere. Few Sydney women know this little gem, but its well-known to Muslim women, nuns, lesbians and simply those who are tired of pervy men on Sydney beaches. The facilities are very basic, with cold showers and a few grassed areas to sunbathe on, but the uninterrupted ocean view is magnificent. The entry fee is strictly for upkeep and not profit, meaning you only need to part with a mere 20 cents per visit (if there’s no one stationed in the spartan clubhouse, be honest and throw your coins in the ice-cream tub through the gate).
