Hg2 : The Hedonist

Madison Manor Boutique Hotel

A large Victorian house of 23 bedrooms decorated with thick red carpet, dark wood fireplaces and flowery fabric, it’s steadfastly old-school. More of a bed-and-breakfast than a hotel (forget about ’boutique’), it’s an affordable, glamour-free alternative to what nearby Yorkville has on offer. Its location on a residential street is within walking distance of two of Toronto’s institutions: the ROM (see Culture) and Greg’s Ice Cream (see Snack).

Free wireless Internet access, a $12-bar voucher on check-in and a continental breakfast help to keep an unpretentious clientele loyal. Anne might get cranky on the weekends, though, when University of Toronto students descend on the adjoining pub, and spill onto the streets after-hours.
