Not only does Spice Route have a hot location on ultra-cool King Street West, it’s easily the most exotic-looking venue on the strip: plumes of fire, wood and lots of foliage. The large interior kowtows to a Buddha Bar aesthetic, particularly in the crimson VIP section, with its gemstone curtain and rose petal-strewn table.
Hundreds of candles-in-wall niches are painstakingly lit every night, before the smart-set clientele arrives. The central square bar glows amber and has a waterfall wall at its core. For drinks, think mango tamarind Martinis and a good range of sake, as well as cold and hot spiked teas like chocolate chai with kahlua.
The Asian-inspired menu has a range of sharing plates – spring rolls, dim sum and sushi – but investing in a tranquil dinner here means competing with the escalating lounge music and crowd chatter. The stunning terrace, with its pond of lily pads and koi, livens up right after work.
