Hg2 : The Hedonist

The Bay Queen Street

Founded in 1690 by King Charles II, The Hudson’s Bay Company dominated the fur market in eastern Canada. It evolved into a massive retail enterprise that now includes the biggest department store chain in the country. It offers mid-range to sky-high fashion, as well as cosmetics, jewellery, perfume, accessories, home furnishings and an array of services. It also houses a men-only grooming salon (see Spa) – American John Allan’s first foray into Canada. The Bay has 92 locations across the country but the landmark at Young & Queen is establishing itself as a competitor to Holt Renfrew. On the third floor ‘The Room’ is an exquisitely-curated gallery of labels – Canadian, international and European haute couture – splendidly showcased with luxury changing rooms and a VIP suite. Designers at the Bay include: AKNY, Anne Klein, Armani, Baia, Ben Sherman, Bench, Bianca Nygard, DKNYC,Esprit, Guess, Jones New York, Lauren, Barbie by David Dixon, Calvin Klein, Jessica Simpson, Strellson, Coppley, Samuelsohn, Ben Sherman, Filacci, Kenneth Cole, Black Brown 1826, Joseph Abboud.
