Hotel Le Tsanteleina
One of the grande-dames among the hotels in Val d’Isere, Hotel Le Tsanteleina – owned by the Mattis family – sits pretty on the main drag. With all the town’s shops, bars and restaurants just a snowball’s throw away, its reservation book is always fit-to-bursting with guests wanting to stay in the heart of the action. That said, it still takes a lot to entice them out into the cold alpine air, such is the quality of the hotel.
The small, cosy rooms are kitted out in authentic mountain style with warm wooden walls and plaid curtains. The restaurant is the darling of chef Jérôme Labrousse, who prepares immaculate French haute cuisine (and is famed for its Friday evening ‘Great Seafood Buffet’). The modern, and very wooden, M Bar is suitably dark and sophisticated at night, while during the day the curtains are opened and light streams in over the cowhide sofas and giant buffalo triptych.
Finally, in the basement is the oriental-inspired spa with a zen-like feeling of calm, swimming pool and array of relaxing treatments.
