Sur La Montagne
Stand on the sunbathed terrace above the high street and you’ll immediately appreciate what inspired the ‘On the Mountain’ moniker – a beautiful mountain vista.
Inside, an idiosyncratic layout mixes modern and traditional styles. Sleek modern décor in one dining room meets wood-panelled alpine in the next. Meanwhile, a colourful play area – reserved for children (hedonists in training) – neighbours a cosy room with large screens playing live pictures from the resort. Despite the clashes, the sum of the disparate parts remains overwhelmingly welcoming.
Perhaps unsurprisingly the menu is equally incongruous, with classic Savoyarde dishes sharing the same page as Pizza and Thai soup. Elsewhere such diversity would provoke gastronomic alarm. Not so in Val, where such choice is routinely celebrated. Whatever you choose, know it will be served impeccably with a smile.
