Independent and eccentric, the spirit of rock and roll lives
on in El Lokal. A double height barn style building, the whole place is
festooned with quirky exotica. Hard to miss; the huge skeleton looming over the
entrance, fishing nets, football paraphernalia, images of Che Guevara, painted
guitars and glittery leather stools. We could go on.
A meeting point for coolsters
of every stripe – described by the owner as ‘extras and loafers, night owls and
thinkers, hackers and directors, bankers and bicycle couriers’ there is a
gentle ebb and flow of people through out the day but El Lokal is principally
famous for its concerts. The owner had a record store back in the day and his
long list of contacts ensures a steady steam of big names and new faces.
