The Dolder Grand
One of the most glamorous hotels in Zürich, financier Urs Schwarzenbach’s
luxurious Dolder Grand dates from 1899, however a 4-year, $400m makeover brought it bang up to date with 2 new wings,
a new spa and a 2 Michelin-starred restaurant. The result: a stylish
renovation, sympathetic to the building’s history with no expense spared facilities.
Of the 173 rooms and suits, the ‘Daddy’ is the Maestro Suite. Built on two
floors, its sitting room is a glass walled tower with epic views, luxurious
cream furnishings and a large terrace for summertime lounging. The décor in the
original building echoes its Swiss rustic style origins, but the floral touches
are tempered by slick brown leather furniture. Rooms in the new Golf and Spa
wings have more contemporary references; dark wood floors, limestone bathrooms
and floor to ceiling windows to make the best of the stunning lake views. All
rooms have B&O technology and WiFi is free throughout the hotel.
fabulous views over the lake and city, summer, when Zürich swelters is the time
to visit. The sleek, Japanese influenced spa (see Things To Do) has a large outdoor
area and both the fine dining The Restaurant and the more contemporary Garden
Restaurant have terraces for al fresco feasting.
Perched high up on a hill 10 minutes from central Zürich, the Dolder Grand is
the perfect choice for some indulgent R&R alongside more metropolitan fun.
