Asia at Tao’s
An oasis of oriental chic tucked away in the Altstadt, Tao’s
first floor dining room (confusingly, called Asia) is gloriously atmospheric.
Divided into intimate spaces by wooden screens, candlelight flickers over
Chinese paintings, carpets and sculptures.
The menu embraces Asia in its
entirety, from Thai curries to dim sum,
sashimi and fabulous tenderloin beef teriyaki served on a hot stone grill,
alongside a few European options. The extensive wine list will keep even the pickiest
oenophiles happy, although deep pockets are a must. A little quiet during the
week, Asia is a good weekend option.
Start with a drink in the lively
downstairs Tao’s fumoir bar, dine at
Asia (or the more modern Tao’s restaurant on the ground floor which serves from
the same menu) then make use of your free entry to upstairs club Icon. In
summer, Tao’s charming shady garden provides one of Zürich’s most charming al fresco dining experiences.
