Caduff’s Wine Loft
Housed in an old Kreis 4 warehouse, the Wine Loft is a large, light-filled temple to Bacchus with a sleek 18m-long bar and artfully lit wine bottles decorating alcoves around the minimalist dining room. But this is just the warm up act for the rocking main event, the invitation to snuffle around oenophile chef, Beat Caduff’s, extensive cellar. Presented with the pick of 2,222 wines sourced from every corner of the world, all but the most knowledgeable will suffer analysis paralysis; fortunately help is on hand from Beat, who comes along to gently steer you in the right direction.
The short menu is highly seasonal and changes daily, reflecting fresh ingredients sourced from the markets that morning. Putting an inventive twist on some classic dishes, lightly smoked Balik salmon comes with an avocado-Wasabi cream, homemade foie gras terrine with a Riesling gelée (a signature dish) and reindeer sirloin with wild cranberry sauce and späzli. Leave room for cheese at the end, with over 60 to choose from, you might need another cellar trip to find just the right accompaniment.
