Surviving the onslaught of the cold and harsh winter season can be tough, and remedying your aches and pains with a well-deserved spa break could be just the ticket you need. To help you decide on the best place to go we’ve enlisted expert help from Abi Wright, Director and co-founder of Spabreaks.com. Here she shares her pick of luxury spas around London:
Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa
One of the grandest houses in England, and definitely one of our favourite luxury spas around London, you’ll instantly be lulled into a state of relaxation upon entering the tranquil 1,065 acres of woodland and gardens within the Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa estate. Step inside the luxurious spa and ease your stresses away in the hydrotherapy pool, or make good use of the six treatment rooms with a soothing massage. And the dedicated relaxation lounge will ensure the only thing you need to concentrate on is the peace and quiet — and the tropical fish on display.
Abi says: “One of the most beautiful and luxurious hotels in the UK, customer service is impeccable and I love the black cabs waiting outside to take you round the estate!”
Pennyhill Park Hotel
Set in the pretty Surrey countryside, the Pennyhill Park Hotel has mastered the art of pampering. The expansive spa offers everything from hot tubs, a tepidarium and classic pools to the slightly more unusual ice cave, for those happy to brave the sub-zero temperatures after a herbal sauna. There’s also an indoor ballroom pool, complete with underwater music to help soothe away any tension.
Abi says: “When you go to Pennyhill Park make sure you spend time lounging in the pools. You can swim from the inside to the outside, and in the middle of winter with snow on the ground it is quite something to sit in the heated water and look at the world around you.”
Hilton London Syon Park
Ditch the concrete jungle and escape to one of our favourite luxury spas around London at Kallima Spa, Hilton London Syon Park. A personalised approach to treatments means that individual needs are of primary importance and expert therapists will take the time to guide you through options like the hot lava shell massage and detoxifying mud wraps, especially adapted to suit your skin type and requirements. The luxurious 400 year-old Syon House estate, the former country home of the Duke of Northumberland, also deserves some time and attention.
Abi says: “Following a recent renovation by Hilton, the hotel at Syon Park is contemporary and extremely elegant. It is perfectly offset by its location in the Duke of Northumberland’s historic estate as well, so make sure you explore the gardens!”A stylish and serene setting can be found inside Syon Park’s luxe spa © London Syon Park pool
Set in one of the country’s prettiest Tudor villages, Ockenden Manor’s contemporary spa is a combination of luxurious indulgence and traditional beauty. The purpose-built structure within the walled garden of the Elizabethan Manor House offers an airy and tranquil atmosphere, and a world away from the chaos of city living. Take full advantage of the indoor/outdoor heated pools and walk through rain-showers, or spend time in the sauna and hot tub basking in the pretty views of one of the best luxury spas around London.
Abi says:: The hotel at Ockenden is straight out of a history book and is picture-perfect, while the spa is contemporary and eco-friendly – it’s the perfect romantic combination.
COMO Shambhala is the contemporary, award winning urban wellness centre that serves up the holistic essence of Bali in Britain. The uber modern space contains six luxurious treatment rooms, where you can try out the detoxifying treatments or a Dr Perricone facial. Whether you’re a spa regular or this is your first encounter, you’ll be suitably impressed with what’s on offer here.
Abi says: Aside from its incredible location on Park Lane, COMO Shambhala is all about the treatments because of the wealth of knowledge that the therapists possess. It is especially good for mums-to-be and you feel very expensive by the time you leave.”
