Beijing is increasingly cool for girls. Jetsetting ladies, both local and foreign, are taking over the Chinese capital with designer duds, deep pockets and a penchant for the finer things. Here’s Hg2’s guide to a girls’ getaway in Beijing.
Multi-coloured glowing windows and boudoir-style interiors reflect the Hotel G’s name – a play on the Mandarin word for ‘extreme’. Inside it’s all outrageous chandeliers, stenciled walls, Hollywood glam photos and mirrors. Hip chicks will love the oversized bathtubs (with L’Occitane amenities!) and in-room massages by the Dragonfly spa until late. Workahol ladies fear not, the business centre has shiny new iMacs, as well as a Technogym so you can shed off the cocktail calories.
Girls with class will love the immaculate and minimalist interior of Paper – think white, white, white, from long lacquer tables to vases of calla lilies. It’s also a healthy take on Chinese cuisine minus the gobs of oil – dainty dishes like stir-fried aubergine, tiger prawns in tea leaves and a fantastic lotus root salad. The best bit, though, are the after-dinner lychee martinis on the sofas in the loft-like area upstairs.
A first among the bars of Beijing, Club Décolleté is an exclusive, ladies-only Champagne bar where gents are only allowed in if they’re hanging off the arm of a wonder woman. The Art Nouveau Champagne bottle-inspired interior is splashed with hand-painted flowers and a cloud-like chandelier for an all gals, all-the-time vibe.
The name says it all. Treatments at the Heavenly Spa in the Westin Financial Street combine modern therapies and ancient Chinese philosophy, with infinity bathtubs, hot plunge pools, a Vichy shower, rainforest showers and ice fountains, as well as a range of celestial massages to ease the jetsetter girl’s travel kinks.
