Sunday brunch at the T Bar in the lobby of the fashionable Diplomat hotel is an exceedingly chic affair. It’s civilized in every sense: this is where elderly parents meet their children, now successful professionals, for baby chat over huge Caesar salads.
Chinos, blazers and pearls and immaculate grooming are definitely the order of the day, while the working week sees relatively more relaxed business gatherings. However, T-Bar’s café status is drawn less from the weekend events than from its everyday serving of very English afternoon tea.
This is the full works: enormous brioche-like scones, home-made jams and marmalades and as many pots of Earl Grey as you fancy. The simple and comfortable interior contributes to this traditional experience, with mostly neutral colours that grow brighter around the corner where the café becomes a bar.
This is great for a few drinks before dinner, especially if you’re staying in the hotel; otherwise keep T-Bar for that moment when the tea and scone craving hits.
