Ultra’s, which is still sometimes referred to by its old name Tinkoff, is a brewery, restaurant and bar in one. Set over four floors, the atmosphere is buzzing from top to bottom. The fourth floor, which is in fact a roof terrace, is one of the best places to be on a summer evening in Almaty, and the ever present crowds are testament to that. The impressive views of both the mountains and the city leave one in awe and wanting another drink to avoid having to leave. You can order the beer filtered or unfiltered, or from a choice of premium imported, with wine and cocktails making up the drinks list. In fact, despite being in the ‘drink’ section, this is a great place to eat. The menu covers a wide range; Japanese, European and local. We love the shashlik, in particular the duck which is well worth a try! Tables on the roof should be booked, but if it’s full we recommend the 2nd floor where there’s live music from 10pm.
