The Alma hotel is hidden away just behind Dostyk Avenue at the level of Hotel Kazakhstan and is not to be confused with the Alma-Ata Hotel, a well known Soviet landmark. A small, quiet, locally run affair, the Alma is a friendly place to be. It has made a good effort to be modern and simple, and although some of the furniture is questionable, the local felt decorations add some Kazakh colour. The small rooms are basic, but you’ll get what you need, and seeing as the prices are so reasonable, you can easily upgrade to
a more spacious suite. A small dipping pool is available, as well as a billiards room and best of all a summer terrace on the roof which has spectacular views. Laundry services, free WiFi and a conference hall means all your needs should be well taken care of here, and this is a good choice for those not too fussed by the fancy western chains.
