Set on a quiet old street between Dostyk and Furmanov Avenues, the location of this hotel couldn’t be more convenient. It is housed in an old building that has been recently-refurbished, evoking a sense of both the old and new. It manages to combine the grandiosity of Almaty’s other five-star hotels with the boutique touch you would expect of a smaller, more intimate hotel. It is unmistakably Italian by design – a style Kazakhstanis are crazy for – but there are subtle Kazakh motifs throughout, too. The standard double rooms are a touch on the small side, but they are stylish and boast rather luxurious bathrooms. Upgrade to a deluxe room for more space, a bath and a sofa. But whatever room you pick, the best place for relaxing in is the lavish spa, whose pool is set under a glass pyramid. The bar too is popular, yet private, and claims to have the best kalyan in town.
